Protect Healthcare Access for 25 Million Americans
This action is shared from #FightTrump, one of Project 1460's partner sites.
Trump has made it clear that one of his first priorities in the Oval Office will be to repeal most, if not all, of the Affordable Care Act. An analysis of Trump’s (detail-lacking) health care plan estimates it would increase the number of people who lack health insurance by as many as 25million, and increase the federal budget by as much as $41 billion. In other words, a repeal of the Affordable Care Act would leave many Americans facing serious medical issues without reliable access to health care, and would cost *more* tax dollars rather than less. Talk about a bad deal.
Today, call your representatives to make sure the most vulnerable Americans don’t lose vital healthcare.
- Search to find your representatives here.
- Pick something to emphasize before you call.
- If you get your health-care through a plan on an ACA exchange (or are still on your parents plan because of the ACA provision extending the age limit to 26), that’s easy – just say that.
- If you get employer-sponsored health insurance, you still probably benefit from an ACA provision, like coverage for a pre-existing condition, contraceptive coverage for you or a partner without a copay, or free preventative care. Pick one that matters to you to mention – if none of the ones we’ve mentioned fit the bill, you can check out this link for more.
- Call your Senator and/or Representative, using this handy script:
Hi, I’m —- —–. I’m a constituent and I am calling to ask the <Senator/Representative> to support affordable healthcare. I’m one of 20 million Americans who count on a marketplace plan for insurance. I want the <Senator/Representative> to vote against repealing the ACA or any of its provisions. If the Affordable Care Act is overturned, I will lose access to affordable health care. I want the <Senator/Representative> to vote against repealing the ACA or any of its provisions.
Hi, I’m —- —–. I’m a constituent and I am calling to ask the <Senator/Representative> to support affordable healthcare. The ACA has lowered health care spending and saved tens of thousands of lives, and it’s one of the issues I consider when I vote. I depend on the ACA because it requires [mention the particular benefit you want to emphasize]. I want the <Senator/Representative> to vote against repealing the ACA or any of its provisions.
Extra Credit: Paul Ryan’s office is conducting a phone poll, hoping to hear overwhelming opposition to Obamacare so he can justify repealing it. Call and express your support for the Affordable Care Act, WITHOUT even having to talk to anyone! (NOTE: the number has been giving a busy signal to many callers- try again in 30 minutes if you don’t get through!) Here’s how:
Call (202)-225-3031. Press 2 to weigh in on the issue. You’ll hear a recording about the bill to repeal it, then Press 1 to support continuing the Affordable Healthcare Act.
You can also call (202) 225-0600 to leave a message with Speaker Ryan’s office about the ACA if you can’t get through on the survey.
